Hey

Recently moved up this way from South Coast - never realised how big the boaty world was up here! And so laid back.

Sussing out the area at the mo - what do you guys think of Watchet? Any experiences? Is the marina any nicer than some of 'the big boys?'

Welcome to the Bristol Channel - enjoy the elbow room compared to the south coast /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I expect one of the Watchet forumites will be along to tell you what's what in whatchet....

I like Watchet but the price for visiting boats means we now overnight on Cardiff or Portishead and buy our fuel there.

Welcome to the forum. I agree watchet is both good, as a town, and expensive as a marina. This year the most I paid on the south coast was £22, Watchet charged me £25. Having said that the town is a very nice place to spend a couple of days. Portishead marina, for instance, is £16.50 for me but the town is not as interesting and further away. Yer pays yer money and takes yer choice. One of the guys at Watchet marina told me they had seen almost no mobos this year.

We have used Watchet a few times in our mobo and enjoyed the facilities, location and friendly staff.

Didn't manage to get over this year due to weather and other commitments but hope to return next year

Kids enjoyed trip on steam train which stops adjacent to the marina. I enjoyed the local pubs and Chinese.

Welcome to the friendly part of the world. I have visited Watchet once this year and only due to the flippin weather otherwise would have visited there more. Very helpfull & friendly staff, interesting town and only charged from what I remember £17 for my 25 footer mobo, with free lecky, water, showers and very helpfull chandlery staff that almost had everything I wanted including fishing gear, bait, also all hook up cables etc.
Yes I was very new to this boating game and arrived with sod all, and yes when we departed went slap bang into an easterly so rock and roll all the way back to good ole Cardiff Bay, wife threatened to never step foot on boat again. All is well now though and looking forward to another trip over to Watchet, just press the "Go to"button, on arrival I found that the traffic lights are automatic and a big help is to arrive at high water so you can wait saftly in the outer harbour for nthe lights to change to green, all so obvious now.........

welcome to the bristol channel see there is life round here /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif,watchet is very nice place and have enjoyed our overnight stops there people very helpful and friendly

Welcome to the forum Ribdriver. I really like the atmosphere in Watchet marina. It is dear for visitors though. The only downside for permanent berthing there is the tidal access is only about 2.5 hours each side of Highwater and depending on the wind direction there m,ay be nowhere sheltered to wait outside..

Portishead marina has about 3.5 hours each side and Cardiff is virtually 24 hour /7.

Come to Bristol f you are looking for a narrow window, I haven't been anywhere for weeks! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Why thank you for the welcome!

Apparently there's been a lot of changes or something this year? For the better or for the worse?(!)

Just been into the office/shop and they're doing loads of christmas stuff! Interesting for a chandlery but why not I guess! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
