The plan is to restore and maintain this growing collection of historically significant vessels and display them in Watchet as “floating museums” and tributes to our military forces. It is calculated that the economic sustainability of these craft will be sustained through visitor numbers and commercial enterprise which will in turn improve the economic diversity of Watchet and West Somerset.

As a former Watchet resident, I found the proposals interesting if rather ambitious.

The building of a workshop and museum on the East Wharf is certainly more in keeping with the town rather than the hideous apartments proposed by Urban Splash.

But why take on the Corner House Cafe - an establishment founded by a late friend of mine. The purchase price of the cafe would go a long way to pay for other, more essential, facilities.

And why get ahead of themselves with talk of park and ride?

A floating museum by the old slipway - hmm, a lot of effort when you already propose a building on the East Wharf.

I welcome the idea of using the museum as a core for other businesses and the employment opportunities this presents. However, they need to start with the workshop facilities first and then see what is required thereafter.

It sounds a good idea but comes down to one thing - MONEY.
