We are in Dubrovnik and have found that the top sides are covered in little orange coloured, pollen-like spots that appear to be droppings of some sort. It has been suggested that they might be wasp droppings. Does anyone have an idea a) what they are, or b) the best way to clean them? They are quite stubborn.

If that's what they are, and they are concentrated enough to be noticeable, it seems likely there is a nest nearby. Best to check carefully in any likely cavity before disturbing them accidentally!

Years ago I left a spare-room window slightly ajar and wasps hung a nest from the curtains...

If it's a few scattered spots, then possibly insect or spider poop. If it's all over then either staining from pollen or grinding dust/overspray.
