Washed dodgers - lettering faded

We've just washed our green canvas dodgers. The boat name is done in white sewn on lettering, much of which has become almost transparent; the original surface has been abraded or washed off, and the resulting semi-transparent surface is ever so faintly sticky.

Question - what type of paint could be used to rewhiten the faded areas?

Cheers for that, Talbot . . . that's why I like this forum.

Do you think it would be overkill to use exterior gloss?

Just dont put it on thick. It needs to soak into the surface rather than through it. Too much and the paint will split when you fold the dodger. Good idea to mask up the outside edge of the letters as well.
