Just goes to show that those yotties bleating on about wash from we motorboaters should get off our backs and start whining about Harbourmaster's, Pilot and Police boats all of which are Nelsons or have Nelson type hulls

I'm still not going to buy a cat, because they all look like they were thoroughly beaten with the Ugly Stick. Sorry.

I can't speak for users in open water, but on Windermere the issue is not so much the wash per se but the nature of the lake means that mobos are climbing on the plane as they leave the established 6mph limit areas and then falling off the plane a few minutes later as they approach another restricted area. Getting over the hump is certainly the thing which creates the biggest disturbance and the nature of the lake with it's rocky shores makes the reflected wakes a further problem.
It's not just yachties. I've seen selfish mobo pilots knock people off their flybridges by inconsiderately opening their throttles in close company with other moored or gently motoring boats. The hire rowing boats and small hire motor boats seem a 'fair' target for a bit of wash as do poor sods doing a quiet bit of fishing.
I have to point out that only a few mobo pilots are like this. It's noticeable that it's often the same guys again and again.
I don't have issues with skiers, they keep very much to themselves, and the Motor Boat Racing Club events are very well run. These and the Classic Motor Boat Rally and the Windermere Speed Week have all been victims of the 10mph (not Knots) and the lake will be a sadder place without them.
There's plenty of space as long as people are vigilant and considerate, but unfortunately some people aren't.
