We have one of these

A Jabsco wash down pump pumps water down the length of pipe to the bow. We usually use saltwater but have a valve to chose to use fresh water.

Every now and then the pump runs for a split second. Perhaps 4x in a night.

The wash down pump is permanently left on so it is ready on demand.

Any thoughts as to its random running? I'm wondering if small particles of sediment are inside the pump.

Cheers

Well, the system is losing pressure somewhere, so it's either a leak in the pipework, or a valve in the pump not seating. Incidentally, why leave it switched on all the time?

there should be a fine filter inside the suction inlet. and its recommended that a fine filter be fitted in the suction line. I had this type just for sea water wash down and anchor wash, endless trouble ,similar to your problem, the tiniest salt build up would cause loss of pressure.
so got rid of pump and found an old PAR type. Problem solved

Is there an accumulator of any sort?
If there is no expansion space, even a small temperature change can change the pressure enough to cycle the pump.
Or just a few drops of water leaking.
The fact that it runs for a split second is a clue, it is pressurising a very small volume, possibly just the flexibility of the plumbing.
Adding a vertical dead end pipe full of air may help.
If there is an accumulator, check the air has not leaked out.

I wouldn't have thought you have a problem worth chasing, the current weather is likely to be causing expansion effects overnight as the system cools. I have always switched off at the battery isolator when sleeping aboard, just like I turn off the gas and diesel - I sleep better knowing nothing can go awry overnight.
