i'm deliberately copying this post on both this and the For Sale forum just in case you don't regularly check the for sale board, but you'll probably be interested anyway.

about a month ago we put some items up for sale on the for sale forum. we were lucky to sell quite a lot of stuff and we say thanks to those who we posted stuff to and in return they transfered money to our bank account.
what a shame then, that one person failed to pay. He does not respond to pm's and we are now short over 30 quid including over 8 pounds postage.

i'd like to name and shame the individual so that no one else is taken in by him, after all he's had over a month to pay, i think that is a fair time.

what do you all think?

Tell us who it is. We may get fleeced ourselves.
Money not arriving could have several reasons, but not responding to e-mails about it is not on. They know they owe the money. Lack of communication. Very poor.
 
I have always had good experiences on YBW "for Sale" board. However, in most cases, goods have been sent on receipt of cheque. It worries me that someone is breaking the unwritten rules. Have you discussed this with Dan?
 
I've been involved with a lot of forums over the years and have seen this sort of thing quite a bit. Sometimes it turns out to be a genuine act of criminal intent, but quite often (more often than not), there is a genuine reason for the delay.

As my other half often points out when I'm stressing about a non-instant reply to an email - a lot of people simply don't check their email as often as others... and there's many other reasons why someone might not be able to contact by email. Computer trouble is not uncommon for instance. Maybe he just set off on the Transat from Plymouth!

I'm not condoning their actions and I wouldn't do it myself - but it might be relatively genuine reasons, so you might consider not declaring them publicly as a thief.

I presume you have their address? Have you written? Are you sure they received the items you sent?
 
I once bought a hob from the for sale forum and when it took a while to arrive,I got worried.It turned out the seller had been out of the country and promptly sent the hob as soon as he returned.I hope something like this is happening to you.
 
You must have his address to have posted the goods. If I were you I would send a gentle reminder by post,give it a week and if still no response name and shame. I have bought and sold on the site and been lucky to only encounter genuine people so far.
 
The problem you've now got is that all those folks who responded to your ads and have paid up are now "suspects" !

The PM system has a maximum number of emails then they bounce - or rather they are black-holed so there is no acceptably certain way of knowing that someone has actually received a PM via YBW.

You don't say whether you have written a letter, snail mail, maybe even recorded or signed for? If you have their surname and address, have you checked directories for their phone number? BT has a free online service for UK phones but people can be ex-directory.

From what you say, you are not going to be financially embarrassed by this loss but if you falsely accuse someone of a criminal act it could have serious consequences for the accused and for you, if it is a false accusation. Maybe there is some genuine reason - you don't even state whether the goods were signed-for?

So, I suggest that before you name him you try to phone him, write to him and then raise this with the forum admin before actually naming him.

I understand that you are very angry, but are the possible consequences worth the 38 quid?

The person concerned knows who he is because i have PM'd him and got read receipts. he claimed to have had a problem at his bank and said he would sort it out, then nothing despite inquiries. there was no question of not having received the goods.
All the other people paid, no problems and i thank them.

i have sent another PM to him to say that i have made these posts and give him yet another chance to put things right before taking things further. You are right, i have his address and may use it to take things further. he is not listed in BT.com as far as i can see.

lets see what happens after this post.....you never know.
 
OK. There is more to it than you included in your original post.

Even if things had moved out of his control he could still have got in touch with you and offered to return the goods, with an apology. Sounds as though he is a rotter. Have you emailed Dan? Not sure quite what he can do, tho', it isn't really an IPC issue as they didn't have any part in the transaction other than 'lending' you their board to post your ad, free of charge.

Good luck. I hope you get it sorted out but don't let it ruin your life - stuff happens.
 
It's disappointing when your trust is abused this way. I once sent an article to a well known forumite on the promise of a cheque which duly arrived but turned out be rubber. It bounced twice, after which I gave up and wrote it off to experience.

Definitely a case for naming and shaming to help prevent anyone else being caught the same way.

Could it be the same person this thread's about?
 
Could be the same person, mine is still posting here and also 'had a problem with my bank' was the excuse after the first rubber cheque.
Maybe the threat of a double name and shame will help Roam get paid - I'll wait and see how he gets on.
