Warning on gauge and all gauges not responding.

Hi guys, I hope you can help me?

I’m having issues with my Volvo Penta diesel.
All of my gauges appear to not be receiving data but all are receiving power (12V). My engine is running fine!

These gauges are daisy chained together with three wires between each at the end of the chain is a plug. Drawing attached.

I have pinned out these three wires between each- the red wire seems to be reading 12v. With the other two wires reading zero.

There is also a warning symbol as shown in image. I would love to scan the system with a diagnostic tool. This seems to be very expensive. I’m trying to diagnose and fix this issue without plugging it in.

At first I thought this may be a canbus system, but was not expecting to read 12v. There is also no termination on the other side of the chain.

The other side of these wires I’m guessing are terminated within the HIU. (I have tested all wires for continuity each having no resistance on the any of the wires.

Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If the engine runs OK, stops/starts OK I would be looking at the wriring from the HIU unit up to your gauges.
The connection from teh gauges to the HIU is either not pluged in properly/damaged or somewhere in the loom is a DIY join that has failed.
First step os to find the HIU and have a look at that.

As it's a canbus system, could be worth finding the correct software and a canbus to usb adaptor and seeing what the error message is.

Have they ever worked since you owned the boat? Is it a new boat to you? It looks from the images to be a re-engine job. Who did the work?
Yes, I have owned the boat for at least 1 year and these issues have appeared! Yes this used to have a petrol configuration and has been converted to diesel. The last owner did the work I believe.

I’ve looked into this and the hire or purchase of equipment needed to scan for errors seems to be pricey? So am trying to diagnose without having to pay out a huge amount?

Yes I have looked at all cables going to the HIU and have pinned out all wires going toward the HIU, continuity on all wires without interference
