Just a word of warning.

I am selling my boat and for the last two months someone has supposedly been buying it. I felt quite pleased that I had saved the awsome amout of dosh that Ancasta wanted in a commission and I took the boat off the market.

More fool me!

The buyer had a test sail and loved the boat and then went on to have the yacht surveyed (early September) but 50 emails and 20 phone calls later and with full agreement reached he still hadn't paid the deposit.

I then gave him a deadline to pay the deposit and guess what!

Turns out that he hasn't got the cash and he also knew that he couldn't get it and if I didn't give him the deadline I would still be waiting for something that would never happen!

I found the whole experience such a pain in the rear and a complete and utter waste of time that I have now just bitten the bullet and stuck it up with Ancasta.

If anyone out there is thinking of selling take a top tip!

Either put it with a broker or down load the RYA contract and get a 10% deposit up front before you take the boat off the market.

Sounds bloody obvious really but I cocked up so someone else might!

Same thing happened to me when I sold my last boat. After 2 seatrials and survey the bloke sort of mentioned in passing that he would have to sell some shares to pay for the boat and, given the state of the stock market (then), he could'nt really justify doing it so would I mind waiting until the stock market improves. Doh!

Funnily enough my buyer asked me to hold the boat for him through to February :)

Spherical sometimes painful things spring to mind!

Amazing ....

I find it amazing that someone would pay out for a survey knowing that they can't cough up the dosh !!!

First come - first served

It would take a cast-iron deal for me to consider taking off the market ......... as I firmly believe and in fact don't expect anyone to deal with me differently - first to slap down the dosh gets the goods .......... if I can't get there quick enough - thats my fault - not the sellers.

Work on that principle and you'll not get had like this incident.

When I call up and aks if something si still for sale and they say "Sorry ........" - I reply "Why sorry ?? You wanted to sell and I was too late ......"

Re: Amazing ....

I agree - we made an offer on Crystal subject to survey when, and only when, we had discussed where the money was coming from. We then put down a small deposit (nowhere near 10%, but as a gesture of goodwill) and invested in a survey. At £450 for this, I couldn't imagine going ahead with the survey if I wasn't sure I could purchase the boat after all...

The least he could do would be to pass on the results of the survey to the current owner, as a token gesture for not proceeding.

What a waste of time and money.
