I have been using a telescopic collapsible ladder for the last four years to get onto my boat when ashore and also if alongside a high harbour wall. Last month it felt rather bouncy when I was near the top I was told to "come down as fast and slowly as possible"! When I got to the ground the ladder appeared to be perfectly normal but I was told that one side of the ladder had fractured and when I went above the fracture the ladder pivoted. A cursory inspection revealed nothing, but a closer look revealed a crack around the telescopic indent. The break is in the middle of the ladder and I normally use it fully extended. I want to advise all users of these ladders to inspect them regularly preferably with a magnify glass because the crack will be in the telescopic indent.
It is a pity that there is this weakness because they are so useful and easy to transport.
