I am looking to get a load of warm winter socks I can wear on watch under my leather yachting boots. Looking for something that is cheap but durable (not going to dissolve after are few trips in the washing machine). I do lots of long distance walking but technical socks are not really necessary on-board. All advice very welcome.

Seal Skinz trekking socks...not cheap but thermal rating 4. I would tend to discount cheap makes because I just dont belive they are worth it. I have tried cheap socks and gloves for years but no more.

Fisherman's socks ... Google

Also check industrial clothing supplies.
Where I worked at one time the stores kept long Shetland wool socks for people who had to wear welly boots a lot. Didn't wear wellies often... but still have some of the socks!

Like the idea of the fisherman's did a google search but too many options, can anyone be more specific on a brand or supplier

Aldi sking socks (if your local Aldi has any stock left). I've got some lovely ones in pink but who cares at that price!

If you cant find seal skinz buy some seal skinz.
i had to watch loads on ebay to get 2 prs at reasonable cost
seal skinz + Dubarries = Toasty, dry feet

Another vote for sealskinz; and when it gets really cold or for protracted offshore stuff, very fine silk socks (I think they're in the ski section) from Decathlon underneath the sealskinz.

I work outside a lot, wearing wellies, and strongly recommend M&S thermal socks. No idea of current price, but I have had mine for years, no ill effects from washing and not too thick, but they are really warm.

Another vote for seal skinz. Being waterproof means you can potter about down below having taken your oilies off and the sole is a bit soggy. (That's cabin, not feet!)

Do need 2 larger sizes on your boots otherwize it can be bit of struggle geting them on and off.
