Which would you fit and which wouldn't you? Pro's and cons for the following (plus any others) gratefully received. Will be fitted to Sealine S28.

Eberspacher
Webasto
Mikuni
Propex heatsource

I've had 2 of those:-

Propex - cheap to buy, quiet. However expensive to run on gas, especially on a bigger boat. I used my on a 23' sailing boat.

Webasto - excellent customer service (from Keto on the south coast) much cheaper to run - noisy for overnight use (others boats not inside) - fit the exhaust silencer and that is not a problem however.

Whatever you go for get the ducting insulated as this gets more heat in the cabin and less in the lockers. Also think about where you fit the fuel metering pump and how you mount it if a ticking like a clock will keep you awake………

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I gues the webasco is worth looking into then. Have dismissed the Propex, and most likely the eber too.

More feedback welcome and thanks in advance

Fitted an airtop 2000 with 2 outlets to my MF805. Doddle for anyone with half a DIY brain. Pics on www.seadee.co.uk if you want to look. Agree with insulating the ducting - you get that in the kit anyway. Got mine from the NEC boat show off the Webasto stand. Try www.boatcentralheating.co.uk and speak to Jason. They gave me solid advice, good price too. When the kit came, each and every part was labelled so anyone could have installed it. As for performance - it's never missed a beat.

We had Webasto on previous boat (Sealine F34) and it was quiet, very efficient, and economical too. Present boat (Phantom 40) has Eber. No complaints about noise, but far less efficient - the air it pushes out is warmish, but takes far longer to warm up boat than Webasto.
Hope that helps!

Mykuni MY30, fitted one 4 years ago, easy diy job, great ducting, and has operated without a hitch. I am so glad I never bought an eber, (their rep at the boat show was snotty beyond belief) and after reading the endless litany of eber failures on the forums I can't imagine why anybody would want one.

My mate has a Webasto air top, good heater but big for its output, and the pump is very noisy, though I think thats down to the installation.

For what it's worth....

I have an Erber D2 factory fitted on my 2001 S23. I've never had any problems with it at all because it gets used every weekend at full blast. It heats the cabin and cockpit up plenty... you won't be sweating with heat, but even in winter, you'll be nice and snug

Think the majority of problems arise from lack of use as opposed to over use

Hope this helps

My ebby gets through 1 ing. plug each season. Every time the service agent recons it hasen't been serviced until i show reciepts. Now i use it on full belt which seems to make it last longer. Yes and i do change the little gauze filter around the plug each time.
