Looking for a Project 31, Senior 31 in need of some TLC must be below £6000 nothing else considered so if you know of one or where I might find one please let me know ?

Regards

For £6k you could probably buy a runner in not bad condition.

I sold my Princess 32 for £10k 7 years ago and everything worked. Good canopy, drives and interior. Ok it was twin petrol but they surface with diesels now below £10k.

If you're looking for a project it needs to be very cheap as the cost of fitting engines and drives will be significant, but reckon if you make plenty of cheeky offers you'll get a Project 31/senior in budget or a P32 no problem.

I loved mine, they are a roomy boat with a nice aft cockpit, just a bit wobbly compared to others because of the relatively narrow beam.

I just bought this one off ebay last week, for £250. It has been left in a yard for 7 years apparently!
Both engines (Perkins 4107) are shot and thinking of replacing them with higher power (around 60 - 65HP) Ford, Nanni or even a Peugeot 1.9 diesel! It has 2x 260 litre diesel tanks !!
Both legs look OK from quick check but 1x prop has seen better days.
ALL the wood in the cockpit needs replacing as it is rotten or rotting and it needs a new cover.
Internally it is not so bad. Windows need replacement seals and needs new covers on cushions / seats.
Lot of cleaning required. Good shower and even has hot water calorifier (i think that is the correct term).
Amazingly, the VHF and Sounder work OK!

There was a Senior 31 on the Hamble, called Lady J until about 3-4 years ago. She was moored at just between the tow bridges on the western side. Navy blue hull.

Anyone know of her whereabouts now?

Saw that on Ebay and thought someone's got a real bargain. Well done and look forward to seeing your progress reports!

PCUK - The progress so far is 1x 4yd skip, full to the top with junk and faulty stuff!
Next job is the cockpit woodwork while it is under a tarp.
Need to find somewhere that can do a new canopy from the knackered old one and at a sensible price!
The Electrics / Electronics are not a problem as I was a Marine Electronic Engineer for 10 years, just leaving the job last summer and moving into a different field in Electronics :-)

Funnily enough we ran our wood burner for a winter on timber pulled out of a previous project. I made my own canopy using a domestic sewing machine and that was with heavy old fashioned plastic coated material. Modern woven hood material sews very easily.

Start with the horrid stuff, the stuff you really need lots of enthusiasm to tackle .Leave the low hanging cosmetic fruit till last.
Discover any hidden nightmares likely to render your project uneconomical as soon as possible, not half way through rebuild, making it difficult to call a halt due to time and cash already invested.
Boatyards are stuffed full of failed projects.
Many 20 years ago a Broom arrived in the yard opposite, not bad condition, had been idle for few years but nothing a good clean would not put right. Sold because rope round both props had distorted stern gear.
New owner set to work over next year with gusto cleaning and polishing and fettling.. Eventually stern gear was tackled shafts drawn and "P" brackets removed.Boat starting to turn green again.
A little while later engines and gearboxes were lying under boat covered by tarpaulin.
The boat is now a total wreck the tarpaulins have totally rotted away and the engines/ gearboxes a rusty mess.
The yard owner is still collecting his rent and assures me the owner still intends completing his project.
It sits among 3 or 4 other long abandoned projects about to be seized and disposed of.
Classic case recently of a project being up for sale, absolute bargain of course , owner had spent serious money on interior and hull detailing ie. wrapping and decalling but had not bothered with boring stuff like sorting engines or gearboxes.

"Both legs look OK from quick check"

Probably worth getting the contact details of either Coastal Rides or IVSS, off chance you might need them.
Good Luck. :)

Oldgit:- I have the details of Coastal Rides, I've used them in the past for Volvo Sterndrives.
Never heard of IVSS.
The comment "Both legs look OK from quick check" was just that, a quick comment from a quick check. No one in their right minds would just take a quick check as being OK for going straight out to sea on them. They are coming off when I take the old engines out and I will get someone more technical than myself to check them out properly and replace seals, etc...
I have a habit of buying old 'project boats' and refurbishing them. Nothing over-the-top, just making them safe, usable and clean. Sort of a hobby that I find pleasurable and a calming influence :-)

Sounds like you know exactly what you are taking on :encouragement:
IVSS are a small outfit not far from Coastal Rides, chap who runs IVSS used to work for CR.
Avantage of IVSS is that they are not VAT registered do not charge 20% on labour.
Certainly could not find fault with any work that IVSS did for me in the past or with any dealings with CR but some have not been so satisfied.
If you think Brexit has divided a nation, wait till you get involved in the debate about outdrives.
First God created hell and then as a laugh he gave us outdrives to keep him amused until we end up there. :)
