I shall be indulging in a bit of sleuthing on Saturday on FUll Circle.

Having a dry(ish) bilge over the last week, we are stepping up the efforts to induce the big leaks.
Therefore, on Saturday morning, I will be taking Full Circle into Bridgmarsh Marina at high tide, taking her to a far deep muddy berth, and allowing the boat to settle on the falling tide.

This should mean that water is trapped and pressured up the keelbox and out through the top, theory 1.

Or, when the boat settles in the mud, the keel flexes and allows water through the keel bolts or possibly the rovings of the keel box material. Maybe the rudder.

Further, theory 3 says the leaks may be caused on the rising tide also by keel or rudder flex.

So, if anybody is up for a meander over to Bridgmarsh and a day spent with their bum in the air and a kilo of talcum powder in their mitt.

Refreshments and sandwiches prodvided of course.

We will be mtoring back out on the tide in the evening, or possibly waiting until Sunday mornings tide.

There is also the oil to change on the engine, and possibly a bit of skin fitting drilling to do(yes really).

An unusual days entertainment indeed.

You 2 must both be Managers.
Only report what you cant do....... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Much as I would dearly love to become involved in this excercise, unfortunately I shall be extrememly busy around that period, I think, washing my hair would be the lamest excuse available /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hope it works out Jim, good luck

Could be worse.... we could be Consultants, in which case, we'd have agreed that we didn't know whether we could do it or not, but for a small sum we'd have a proper look at the challenge and confirm whether or not we could do it..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry to disappoint.

As a Director I feel I can delegate the task to be adequately controlled by the local Manager (presumably Lynn) and who ever she deems adequately trained for the role.

Please report findings in due course. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

PS I have 'managed' to avoid work since I took up this role!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sounds like something that will get you on the sex offenders list so i am glad to be busy aligning the engine on me own boat.

PS would would something kind of slippery not be more suited for that sort of activity

My eternal thanks to D3B.
We managed to dry out the bilges, put talcum powder everywhere, settled into the mud and waited.
Nothing, not a sausage (or even any water). Bugger all.
So we have several places on the boat where water can be trapped until it achieves a certain angle, then it dribbles out of its hiding place.
At least I have got a root cause for the leaking diesel, its the Webasto connection into the main fuel tank. I will do that on Firday after we get to Oostende, as the fuel level will (probably) be a lot lower.

Boat now ready, and we have given away our mooring for next weekend to some visiting racing fleet.

Looking forward toit.

I have grinned for the first time in months whilst on the boat.

See you on Friday!

Sometimes, when the water has been there for a while, I could scoop up the salt crystals. They would taste OK, except for the tinge of diesel.
This weekend, we tried adding talcum powder to it, but it just made the water a bit gloopy in texture.

There is currently 5 gallons of fresh water slooshing around in the bilges, which still doesn't taste nice, because its got a load of Bilge cleaner in it.

The only leak we now have (apparently) is the fridge box overflow, which goes straight to the bilges, Ewwww!!!!

The mess under the saloon cabin sole.....

and the aft cabin with the fuel tank liberally sprinkled in talc.

Cor, it won't arf smell nice.
Reason I asked the silly question is that we have a Moody, and they are notorious for the calorifier relief valve dumping straight into the bilge. Very worrying the first time it happened, until I tasted it!

My calorifier relief made itself known whilst I was in Bradwell. As our electric pump saw it as a demand, it emptied the entire contents of the forward tank into the bilges, and, as I wasnt onboard, the pump kept running for perhaps an hour or more.....
