Finally have my boat fully serviced polished and anti-fouled. So ready for my 1st extended trip from Walton up to Bray Marina.
Not so fast, whats that foul smell in the cabin. Opened the wc door to find the toilet has back flowed from holding tank. Or at least I think it was from there.
The engineer seems to think it could have been whilst it was on the trailer for servicing but we are not sure.
Anyway my first stop was Penton for a pump out and fuel. Bit shallow on the wrong side of the green buoy to Penton marina entrance, oops!
2pm we set off on a very quiet river so no queues or crowded locks.
We were making good time until I noticed no temperature gauge. Another call to the engineer. He said there must be a lose wire.
Sure enough I found it hanging, so a quick fix but this should have been picked up on the test after the service.
A few locks up we kept talking to a chap on his boat which lead us to an invite to to his river side house for a beer.
Behind schedule now before the marina staff go home.
Our last lock was to be worked ourselves on which we had a bit of confusion as to why the gates would not open. Finally with help from a party boat crew we managed to get them to work.
Eventually arrived at Bray at 6.45 and shown to my new birth. Having never moored at a pontoon this was another test of my newbie boating skills. With the help of my crew mate on the ropes we reversed birthed without any problems although the double birth was empty.
A long chat with the neighbours whilst my wife drove up to collect us had proven that we had made the right marina choice.
A great day for me and me ship mate
Looking forward to an over nighter.
