This e-mail is to let you know that that the area under the bridge will be particularly busy until the end of next week. In addition to the usual arch closures there will be a large pontoon on station near the temporary supports removing them. This work includes diver operations.

We would be grateful if you could ask all your colleagues to take particular care when approaching the bridge during this period.

After this time, we will remove the navigation closures for the time being but the pontoon will remain mid stream and traffic should pass each side as indicated.

The Walton Bridge Project Team thank you for your continued understanding and co operation during the construction of the new bridge.

Passed under it today going upstream. No problems just the arch, on the Bridge Marine side open for use. Nice cheery wave from the welders. Bridge looking good and work coming on apace.
When the landscaping is done the whole bridge area is going to look quite stunning.

Update
According to the Deputy Bridge supervisor there will be an event to mark the completion of the construction of the new bridge on 11 July 2013. The new bridge will not open to road vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists until the morning of Monday 22 July 2013, subject to weather and operational conditions and the completion of the construction of the new road in-between the new bridge and viaduct. Due to the work involved and the timing of the switching over of traffic from the existing bridges to the new ones there will be no formal ceremony on this day.
I have yet to see any publicity on the opening event; this information was only obtained as a response to a direct email request.
