I am buying a boat which has a wallas heater fitted, for some reason it has been disconnected. has anyone had any experiance of this heater and would there be any reasons for the heater being disconected
I have one which didn't work. They have dodgy PCB's which a lot of people have complained about. I removed the PCB and got it repaired by this guy for £45, good job and fast turn around.
I have heard that turning them off using a switch other than the integral switch can cause problems as they have a shut-down regime to cool the heating element.

Good grief, have you ever been to Johnshaven? Its a tiny little fishing port on a rocky shore, the last place in the world to expect a PCB repair man!

All hot-air type boat heaters have a shut down cycle to cool the unit down. If a heater has got particularly hot, it may cycle more than once to cool down so you should wait at least 10 minutes after switching the controller to off before disconnecting the DC supply.
I wouldn't recommend buying new but its worth fixing if you already have one fitted. The noise is similar to a piezo(?) ignition on a gas cooker - not too bad if the heater is in the cockpit locker.
Our is 15 years old now.. it hasn't worked a lot as we have been mostly sailing in hot waters.. but it is still working well.. we have been pleased to have it in Patagonia and as well in the desert of North Chile..
