I have a Wallas heater in our new (to us) Quicksilver. It’s the 30 Dt. The boat has not been used for a while. Batteries have all been disconnected and reconnected so there‘s been a lot of power interruptions. The boat has also been delivered by road from Dublin to Plymouth. I’m not familiar with Wallas heaters, but when you flash it up, it immediately goes into ‘lock’ mode, with flashing lights. There are easy instructions on how to reset the heater, but they are accompanied by ‘find out why the unit has entered lock mode first’. This sounds eminently sensible, but I have read that these heaters often require a reset. I can‘t see anything wrong with wiring or pipework and am tempted to have a go at a reseat and see what happens, before I call in an engineer. Bottom line is do others reset these heaters like you reboot a computer or could I do real harm?

Well you posibly only allowed to try and reset so many times , then may have to be reset by engineer , check fuel valve is not turned off if it has one , good luck.

Had a Wallas (dunno which one but boat was 2003 Aquador) and had a few probs. If you lift the unit out of its mounting, there is a spade fuse. Worth checking. To reset the power, I seem to recall isolating the power and then switching on at the unit itself. If you listen carefully, you should hear the fuel pump ticking as it draws fuel from the tank. Ensure the straw size hose is not blocked. There is a filter at the suction end. If the unit fails to sense that it is receiving fuel, it will trip out. Reset as above. Hopefully you will start to see the diesel slowly moving along the hose. As long as it keeps ticking, eventually it will fire. If there is no power to the unit and the fuse is ok, these units are very sensitive to 'dirty' power. I ended up running a complete new cable between the battery and the unit. Worked a treat afterwards. imho DON'T bother with Bucklers Hard who are the agents in the Solent. Waste of time and money. Try Krueger in New Milton and they will get you sorted. Really know their stuff.

Thank you for the replies. Really helpful. I went for a full reset, fired it up and hoped for the best. So far no problems. It ignited and stabilised quickly. Hopefully it was just one of those glitches, but I’ll have it inspected properly when I get the engine serviced. Thanks again.

Glad you got it going. Once fired up, it takes a while to get hot but once it does its fine. I also liked the idea of NOT having gas on the boat. Please ensure that once you turn it off you allow the unit to complete its shut down procedure, otherwise it may soot up. Also BEWARE OF THE HOT GLASS, there is no indication that its hot and I have practical experience that it really hurts! I think you are in Plymouth, where I am sure there are Eberspacher agents, if not, Krueger will look after you. Enjoy!

Thanks Aquadorman. You’re right - we have an Eberspacher agent pretty much next door.
