My recently acquired Contessa 26 is in need of a heater. I also want to replace the gas hob and remove the gas installation completely. I was planning to fit an Origo 3000 spirit stove as I have used these before and was leaning toward the Wallas blown air heater after seeing favourable threads here.

I now see Wallas also make a diesel hob unit to which a fan heater hood can be added to turn it into a 1.9kw heater. The cost is broadly similar to other combinations.

Does anyone here have any experience of these?

Wallas hob

Long time to reach cooking temp. A very long time to purge after shutting down. A nightmare in a small galley in the summer.
Fails to light if battery low then has to go through the purge phase before it can be lit. Nothing unusual to have to wait for 30 mins for a cup of tea

Thanks both.

I was not expecting the main part of the combo, the hob, to be wanting.

Unless others come on here with better news, I will stick to my original plan of Origo meths hob and either a Wallas heater or maybe a charcoal stove from Pansey.

I have an Origo stove and a Wallas heater and I'm happy. I did wonder if a Wallas hob + air blower was the way to go to keep gas free when I was looking as heating but reading this I'm happy that I'm carefull with cash.

I have a hob /heater agreed the cool down cycle is a bit slow but it is a great sense of relief not to have gas on board .the wallis used about 1 to2 galls all year living aboard..the fan heater part is quite effective to take the chill off,,, our main heating is a reflek this is the best money I have ever spent Im sitting here now at a constant 70 and its only on prime [never use the eberspacier] also very economical plus no drain on the batteries
