Hi All
I wonder if any of you have used any of the Wallas range of cooker/heaters (parafin or diesel), if so your comments would be appreciated.

I have never used one, but there are some experiences of them and helpful advice on the Dragonfly forum. They are a factory option on Dragonflies, and a few people have them. You can look at what's already been said there, or post your question there if you don't get enough answers here. Have a look at some of Bo Wetzel's posts here...

Previously owned a Nimbus 35 that was fitted with a Wallas parafin hob unit:
For: safety aspect of not having gas on board, parafin tank was sufficiently large to last for absolutely ages,ceramic/glass hob unit was easy to keep clean(providing you wiped off the spills before they became baked on), installation looked really neat
Against:You need to allow ten minutes or so for it to come up to full temperature, very slow response time when turning up or down the heat level, quite difficult to control the temperature accurately, always petrified about dropping something on the glass hob surface and breaking it
Current boat is back to a standard gas cooker and whilst the Wallas has its points on balance I think I prefer the speed and controllability of gas.

I have the Wallis 2400 Heater(pariffin) Works ok and is quite economical but its a pain having to have a second tank and paraffin is not always available.

Hi!

I have had a bulkhead mounted Wallas 1800 paraffin heater on board for the last 15 years (and it was four years old then) and it's brilliant! OK, we only have a small boat, but it's only twice failed to start due to having got an air-lock when the para ran too low.

I'm puzzled at Sailorman's comment re the pcb's (watch mine go down the swannee now!) as this is the first I've heard of such a problem despite knowing several people with one form of the heater or another. I wonder if his heater wasn't allowed to cool down properly prior to the power being turned off - something that would lead to rapid and significant heating of the electronics.

Anyway, I'm dreading the day mine packs up, 'cos I don't want the Eberspacher type with all the associated ducting. Guess it'll be back to an extra sweater or two!

Good sailing.
