Hi,
My Wallas 30d 3kw heater is working but the heat output is too low, it's been serviced recently. Fan runs good and no other obvious issues. Decided to feed the heater from a temporary jar of clean fuel bypassing the fuel tank and filter. This made no difference at all, so decided to measure the fuel consumption at low rate and full rate. Found to be only burning about half the fuel at low rate, and 1/3 of the fuel at high rate compared to the consumption noted in the manual. So obviously something wrong here. So far I have checked the lines are clear through to the fuel pump and also checked the fuel needle was clear which was new at last service, all seems ok. So, I think it's either, a) the fuel pump weak or b) the signal to the fuel pump from the pcb/ecu. The fuel pump "clicks" approximately once per second at high rate and once in 3 seconds at low rate. Does anyone know if this sounds correct? Any input appreciated!

I’m having a ‘mare with my Wallas 30d. It has fuel, proven from the pump, a new glow plug that glows like the sun, the fans both are running. On start up it smokes and try’s but never fires up!! Any tricks/ tips and ideas welcome…

Same here. I replaced the fuel pump and it was delivering more or less the correct volume of fuel. But all of a sudden it started misbehaving and doing random things. After some investigation i found that the pcb is goosed meaning the glow plug was getting constant power regardless of wether the panel was switched on or not! The pcb is a discontinued part unfortunately. You could check yours by putting a multimeter on the glow plug then put it through the start up cycle and see what happens.

Hi jdrakeford,

Our Wallas 30D also has low output. In high power mode the fuel pump clicks about once a second i.e. similar to yours.

Did you manage to fix the problem, and what was it?

Hi,
The issue was with the PCB, discontinued part. I sent my pcb away to a electronics company for repair / refurbishment. Got it back and it was even worse, sent it back twice and it was never right. Company was Greasley electronics, so don't use them. Whether you have a pcb problem I'm not sure. I spent loads on mine and never got it running right. Gave up on it in the end. Good for spares for someone who wants it.

I managed to get the heater working well again; the problem turned out to be a worn out heater mat. I replaced the mat and also the fuel needle, but the old needle actually looked ok. There was a fair bit of carbon in and around the burner, so I cleaned everything up (including the glow plug and thermocouple), put the heater back in the boat, fired it up and basked in the warmth.

Basically, all that was needed to restore it to full health was a service ; something that is clearly needed more frequently in future … Kuranda supplied the service items, and were most helpful with their advice.
