I have recently been given a Walker's Harpoon II Depth Finder-uncovered while helping a friend clear a garage where it had lay hidden for many decades. It is stamped with the serial number S5792-does anybody on this forum know how I could discover what year this instrument was produced? I'm aware that Walker started producing them in 1861 and carried on doing so 'til well into the 20th century. Their later models had some plastic parts fitted instead of the original brass fittings. This one has the brass fittings.
As a nice touch on this one of mine, its wooden box has a small plate on the lid showing that it was originally sold by Capt. O. M. Watts Ltd. of London.
Any further info on this would be greatly appreciated.
