Has any one ever serviced one of these?
I have been given one, it is in its box, has the spare propeller and weight, but the mechanism seems to be stuck.
When I take it apart (Probably on Thursday) should I expect thousands of tiny cogs to flow out and away?
What do you use / reccomend for future lubrication, WD40, light engine oil 3-in-one?
It is 20 years since I last even used one and I have never taken one apart.

Can you help please?

Simon

I can't help you with the taking apart bit, but you have impelled me to look at my Knotmaster which is lying in my "don't throw away until I'm dead" cupboard. In the box is a container of "ship log oil" which looks a bit like 3 in 1 which would probably do.

" the spindle and races should be frequently oiled by dropping a few spots of oil past the eye. In addition after 500miles or 4 weeks use the back part should be removed and oil applied to the bearing assembly through the oil hole provided.
The dial movement requires a few drops of oil every 500miles. If the log is to be stored for any length of time it should first be cleaned and oiled."

That's what the instructions have to say. I dont suppose you have the original oil can and oil. I guess 3 in 1 would be suitable.

I expect someone will be along shortly with a link to his scanned copy of the instructions.

You might find them with a search.

Oh I'll scan mine anyway

Thanks Vic,

Fantastic I will do this job on Thursday. Thanks for the help.
Can you buy spare spinners, hooks and weights any where? or do you have them made?

THanks Again,

Simon

Re: Walker Log details

Vic, you're a gem!
Not that finding instructions for my 1960's Mk IIIA KDO was high on the priority list until I managed to scrounge a missing deck shoe from a fellow forumite recently.
But now my cup runneth over.
Thank you so much.
