i have waeco compressor coolbox- rather than having another piece of kit on board i was wondering if my laptop transformer would power it. the output is 16v 4 amp. i believe the waeco can take 12 or 24 volts?any suggestions/experience

It shouldn't be a problem, but what happens if you want to have both on at the same time?
Mail or phone (01305 854000) Waeco uk tech support, they are very helpfull.
As you are talking about a "laptop transformer" this suggests that you are on mains power, so why not just run the fridge off the battery and use your mains battery charger to float charge.

May I ask why?

I run mine straight from the boats domestics, why the need to add a former.

Is it that the fridge is is shutting down a lot? I had this problem until I increased the cable capacities 3 fold. I also removed the fridge from the main panel and have it fused and switched from the nearest battery switch. This cut the cable run for me by 3/4.

By carrying out this maintenance the fridge now works as promised by the manufacturer.

If this is not your reasoning then I apologise for any presumptions.

A 4 amp supply wont be powerful enough for it.

My 6 amp halford supply wont run it either. They require a fairly high startup current being motor driven, so the waeco supply is really the only way to go.

It was about 25 quid from memory.
