Hi all

Im buying a boat with a Waeco MF-40 fridge fitted. I'd like everyones thoughts on run time of these fridges before the battery goes flat. I have added the spec of the fridge that I have found on a website.

Dont know the battery capacity on the boat yet but there are two batteries with a selector so I appreciate that I would run the fridge/lights when the engine is off to allow me to start the engine on the other battery.

Fridge spec:-
40 liter capacity, vertical space for 2-liter bottles
Power supply via 230-volt outlet or 12 volt (fixed installation)
Silent operation thanks absorber technology - even in bed near usable
Cools to 25 ° C below ambient temperature
Power consumption 60 watts

I think ( happy to be corrected ) that they have a batt protection function ,ie will switch off below a certain voltage .
Thus preventing a total batt discharge .
Oppersite applies too -won,t switch on unless batt V is over a certain V -makes you think it's knackered when it's a actually trying to help you.
Tell tale is comes on afew mins after engine start up .Alternator recharges domestic bank up required V -it then comes back on .
Assuming seperate batt banks -domestic (fridge) and dedicated engine only .

The power consumption suggests 5A, (60W/12V = 5A), but that is probably continuous running. Having just ordered a Waeco CRX 50, they seem to average about 1.5A over 24h, with external temp of 25C and fridge temp of 3C.

So it will probably use about 36Ah per day. Your answer depends on the size of the battery bank, present capacity, and State of Charge.
