Waeco Fridge Installation

I will be installing a new Waeco CP40 fridge soon complete with a 12V/240v Adapter which I undersatnd will automatically switch over from 12v to the mains supply when the marina supply is connected.

Are there any special 'does & dont's to watch out for when connecting.

It does indeed switch over, but to 24V. Don't worry, the fridge can cope.

Do make sure your wires are thick enough, go up a size on the manual's specification if borderline.

Not sure what a CP40 fridge is and cannot see one listed on Waeco website? I have just fitted a Waeco Coldmachine and would be happy to share my experience if it helps

I have a CF35 (now CFX35)on our boat, only running from 12vDC. When on shore power, the Stirling battery charger is supplying the 12vDC, so no need to plug into 240vAC.

It is better than our built-in compressor-fed cool-box, as it will freeze down to -18C.

Yes, I think the unit I had was a "mobitronic" or something like that, which, as already mentioned, supplies 24 volts when shorepower is applied. Obviously the comment about thick wiring is valid from the battery to the Mobitronic and onward to the compressor. The screw connections on the mobitronic need to be well made and then protected by silicone or similar as they were (in my case ) the weak point.
On our current boat we have opted for the P-S (above) solution and left the compressor connected only to the domestic bank, as it is charged whenever the boat is plugged in.

There is a choice of interior light bulb. 12v or 24v. If you intend running from the Mobitronic transformer be advised to fit the 24v bulb in the fridge. It will be dim when running on batty, but it won't blow when running on 24v - mains!!! How do I know???

It is still better to use the separate power pack, as it takes a large load off the charger.

Those Waeco units are brilliant, I had one and its fridge cycle duty was never more than 25%, but stick it on super cold and it would freeze stuff solid.

I had a Waeco45 on my CW. Now at home for serious fridge expeditions.


The only addition to the above suggestions, is to put a bright LED in circuit, so that you see when it is running in sunlight (not just connected).
