Cooling unit fitted four years ago and it has broken down twice. First time I sent the whole thing, including the evaporater to Waeco and they pronounced it worked fine. Refitted it and it did not. Got a man to look at it and he replaced the electronic box and it worked for a couple of months then stopped. Used frozen water bottles last year and worked a treat without the damn machine! However, want it working. I assume perhaps there was something wrong with my electrics and this perhaps was affecting the electronic box thingy. Since it broke I have replaced a lot of wiring, new engine, batteries etc etc. Power and cable sizing has always been correct. I want to replace the electronic box again to see if it springs into life. Is there somewhere cheap to buy them? last one cost me over 200 quid!

i would take the box to a repair shop to see if it can be repaired, the isnt much inside that a repair shop cant fix.
What do you get happening now, any flashing lights, fans going ?

The electronic box of the BD35 contains a microprocessor and it will flash in case of an error. the short and long flashes indicates the error. You will find on Danfoss internet site the error codes. Try to connect the box directly to the battery with a heavy copper wires. When the unit starts it draws for a few milli seconds a high current and measures the voltage drop. If the drop is thigh it thinks that the battery is flat and the unit will not start. The the most common problem with this unit is wire size too small or lousy connection (bad switch etc.)
The controller is intelligent and will not drain your battery.
The microcontroller produces 3 phases (3 phase motor) and regulates the puls width in order to minimize the power consumption....

Wow, sounds interesting! So, I take off the box, connect direct to battery and see what lights it shows. I can't see any lights on the outside of the box though, are they on the inside? I will look. The power seems fine at the unit. I checked it a million times. But, I guess the switch could be a problem, it is old....! Thanks for advice but I still might need to buy one......where can I buy one that doesn't involve using a repair guy who marks it right up! Thanks.

There is a single LED in the electronic box. Take my advice with the direct connection to the battery...buying a new box wont help if your voltage drop is too high and dont listen to electricians... The micro draws via the parallel switched motor winding for a few milli seconds a high current and measures the voltage during these few milli seconds and then it decides if it starts the compressor motor...perhaps somebody can explain it perhaps more simple...This software routine at start up is made in order not to discharge your batteries when voltage is low.

Frankklose, do you know if the bd35 is a standard compressor used in, for instance, waeco CU54 chassis?
If so, can I assume the controller is the same and will apply the test load every time it cycles up? (It has no LED)
If mine has a battery problem, the fan is seen to cycle on and off every few seconds, but the compressor start current obviously drops the power sufficiently to go into power-save mode and the pump doesn't start. That seems to be different to what you describe.
This is just an information-gathering excercise on my behalf.
Thanks in anticipation,

The BD35 is the standard compressor used in most boxes. The electronic box is also available for the older transistorized electonics. These use darilington transistors which are no more available and in case of break down the old electronis are exchanged for the micro computer controlled box. This box is available in two version. The one so called EMF version is the one which should be used on boats since it will let you receive navtex transmission. The box which is normaly sold with the BD35 radiates lots of signals and makes it basicly impossible to receive NAVTEX....I find it redicules, that they sell from my view the wrong version to all the boat owners........Watch out the EMF version costs more, but your NAVTEX receiver works when the fridge is on.
