On Saturday18th August 2012 the Walton & Frinton Yacht Club will be running their annual Pier Race for dinghies. The race is open to all comers.
The race starts at or near the yacht club, heads down the Walton Channel to Stone Point, then follows the coast round to Walton Pier where the finish line will be located.
At the end of the race the competitors have the option of either towing their dinghies overland back to the clubhouse - a distance of about ½ mile, or, sailing back the other way along the course they came down.
Details are still being finalised, and weather conditions will determine if the race will actually go ahead.
This is the type of race that will challenge your skills across a wide spectrum of sailing conditions, and not really suitable for those whose experience is somewhat limited.
There is nothing definite currently on the club website - www.wfyc.co.uk, but if you are interested in taking part please contact either myself or the club office at office@wfyc.co.uk. We will then keep you informed as the details develop.
On Sunday 19th August we are also having our Open Day, including an auction, so come along and make a weekend of it.
