Both are 3cyl.Different cylinders. And they get 40hp out of the bigger one.(and no turbo) How do they do that? Is that very clever of them?
And longer stroke IIRC. Looks similar but it's a bigger engine!Slightly bigger bore?
Yep, we have the twin cylinder Perkins version as our generator. M102-05. Great little engineYes, 50% bigger engine. Physically much bigger, about 50mm greater in width, height and length. I have just bought a boat with the Perkins version of the 2040, but down rated to 34hp at 2800rpm rather than 40hp at 3600.
If you are looking to replace your 2003, then the 2030 has the same basic mount footprint at 410mm centres whereas the 2040 is 460mm so will need wider beds.
there ain't no substitute for cubes!
That's because torque x RPM / 5,252=HPApparently there is – rpms.
I replaced my 2 cylinder 13 hp Volvo MD7a (744cc) with the slightly 'smaller' 3 cylinder 20 hp Beta 722 (719cc).
The power difference lies mostly, I would guess, in the rpms, 2 600 against 3 600.
