I had a suspicion that the port engine was becoming slow to respond to the throttle and was down on power and made a mental note to check it this winter .
well winters not here yet but I have stripped both elbows off anyway .
What a shock to see the exhaust gas had been trying to get through a hole the size of a PENCIL !!!

It was totally choked with coke and rust its a wonder the engine was still able to run at all .

I took it into the workshop and ground out most of the blockage and painted it so it is
now ready to re-fit .
So , my point is check your elbow/s , I have found them relatively easy to remove , lots of WD soaking , patience and good sockets ,
a wobbly helped on the lower outer nut .
My stbd elbow was made in stainless , 3 year ago ,and is perfect , I think another will be arriving soon as
these old cast iron / expensive Volvo types are rubbish .

Be careful. When the elbow on my MD2020 was in a similar state, during cleaning, the inner pipe which seperates gas from water at injection developed a hole. Not something you want so near the cylinder. Check very carefully .
