Once again searching for answers,

While doing a few simple jobs aboard I had reason to remove our main instrument panel.
Our boat has recently had kad32's fitted & has new instruments for Tacho/hour meter, voltage & engine coolant temperature.

There are a couple of connectors unused on the loom which look to be oil pressure & turbo (poss boost pressure).

My question is, if I were to source the required guages can I just plug them onto the loom & expect them to work?

Are they accessory parts or would they have been supplied originaly with the engine package?

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Cheers.

There's a boost gauge on the KAD's? If so, that's damn cool.

I actually had the same questions as you but never looked further into it. I had an oil pressure gauge on my last KAD32 boat, but there were still un-used wires... wonder what they're for

The connections on the loom are labled, oil presure & turbo, both plugs have a mimic of the guage there intended for.
Looking at the new guages their plugs are also labled to correspond to their designated output, ie coolant temp is to coolant gauge.

My question could possibly be are the senders preinstalled on the engine & the loom would pick them up in the basic install?

I just wondered if the guages hadn't been installed because the console has no spare openings for them or they were part of an accessory package & although the loom is wired for them the actual senders & guages need to be purchased if required?

Will search around the engine for senders next time I'm aboard but thought there might be a greater knowledge here before I need to crawl in to investigate.

Cheers all

Oil pressure sender will defo be there - tbh it's a vital gauge to have

The turbo boost is also a vital gauge too imho - you need to know what boost your engine is getting.

If you get any more info let us know!

ive seen that too, i've got oil pressure but not turbo boost pressure, maybe check if sender is there by measuring voltage on the terminals with engine running

Check if it changes when you rev the engine

I think most of these instruments are the same type so you could try plugg the turbo connector into the oilpressure or temp gauges.
If you do pls let us know how it goes!

Before you try you could check out the turbo and see if there are any cables comming out.

You are correct with your statement about the wiring on your KAD 32, however the wiring loom you have is also used on the 41/42/43/44 and 300 series of engines. One set of the connectors are for the boost pressure gauge and the other one is for the oil pressure gauge on the reverse gear, none of these are used on your engine - sorry.
Hope this clears up the situation.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Many thanks, I knew someone would be able to advise & you have answered all of my questions.
I would have liked to use the oil presure if it had been available but never mind, saves me buying the missing guages.

Cheers
