Hi All....... i,m in the middle of propseals and gear shift seal replacement on same and have been offered the opportunity to pressure test when completed....so the question is... (not done this bit before), is it done by pressurizing, and if so by how much and for how long, ORRRR by creating a vacuum and by how much and for how long ????....................................(i assume all this is done before the oil is refilled)................ THANKS IN ADVANCE PEOPLE...... regards Steve...

hi Steve,
good idea, water will be trying to get in, so positive pressure is good in the leg. heating and cooling makes the behaviour a little different in action mode. I would find some thing to fit the oil filler orifice and blow into an attached tube.Think I'd be happy with low pressure as the leg is barely submerged.
mind that little brown dipstick, £35 if you snap it!Before the oil , but seals will need vaseline on assy or whatever is the volvo recommended goo! There may be another breather hole in the big filler, cannot remember, but mine manages to piss out fluid if run 12/24.I fill it short by an inch to allow frothy expansion.

Steve, i'll do some digging as I think the amount of pressure required is in the manual from when I did it a while back but may have been on the Merc drvies.. 5 psi springs to mind but don't quote me until I have checked. Ideally you should do both, pressurise and vacuum. my tool will do both, pressurise with ease but will struggle big time to suck the amount you'd need to create a vacuum (I tried and failed)

Got all the detail you need Steve, page 124 in the DPE Sterndrive manual.. PM me your email address and I'll send it over to you.. for pressure testing, you need to pressure to 3 to 4 PSI first, rotate the props and check for leaks (soapy water), if all ok, take it up to 18 psi and do the same. Leave it there for 3 minutes and it should not lose more than 1psi in that time.. note, all pressures are in KPa in the manual, I've converted them to Psi. you do the pressure test before the vacuum test. Similar process is used for the vacuum test, the Hg values to take the drive to in the two stage process is also in the manaul

cheers Gary
