I recently replaced the starter on this engine.
Having done so I thought I would look inside the old starter with a view to refurbing as a spare.
Much cleaner inside than I expected so I removed what muck there was and put in a new set of brushes.
Connected it up to bench test with negative on the body of the motor, positive on the solenoid terminal and made a connection from positive to the spade terminal on the starter.
Produced a loud click, pinion leapt forwards strongly but no further rotation of motor.
Any ideas?
