VP 2003 - fuel pump...

Unlike later Volvos, the 2000 series of engines were designed and built by Volvo, and they have no equivalent automotive base unit. So, you're stuck with Volvo parts or ones made to the same patterns. Low demand makes them expensive!
automolive pumps may have had a drain hole which would not be suitable for a marine environment

Volvo used the same pump for many engInes before the 2000 series petrol and diesel but with appropriate diaphragm

Yes I can get revs when in gear, it's only when I leave her at idle about 900 rpm after about half an hour she will stop and the filter will be empty. That's why I'm wondering if the problem is the lift pump
So every time the engine stops in this way do you have to prime the fuel system?
Is this the engine filter after the lift pump or a primary filter between the fuel tank and the lift pump?

Yes I have to prime the system

Yes there is a filter with water separator at the tank. I have tried just running from a drum with just the pump and filter on the engine and still the same result
Thanks. That rules out an air leak at the primary filter so suggests your problem is an air leak at the lift pump. You should be able to get a service kit as I suspect the diaphragm may be punctured.
Have you noticed the sump level creeping up. What you could also check is have a sniff of the oil on the dipstick and see if it smells of diesel. If this is the case then you need also to do an oil change.

Thanks again, how would the fuel get into the sump ?
