ON bleeding after changing the diesel filter on my Volvo penta 2003T, I found out that the fuel lift pump was not sucking in diesel. dismantling the pump I found nothing wrong with the diaphragm or any of the pump itself not even the valve seal inside. I can find no blockage back to the fuel tank. Any suggestions?

refit the filters I bet there is an air leak on the seals, I tried for ages this season to bleed with no pickup on the pump, looked at the CAV and found the top seal rolled a tad. Refitted and primed straight away.

The old style Pierburg manufactured fuel pump on the 2000 series is a piece of junk. The only reason why some of them seem to work is because of the gravity feed of some fuel designs. Even then after some time, they stop functioning.

Your best bet is to replace it with the new style pump which is sealed. You will also have to use a new piece of fuel pipe. These are made by Sofabex. Make sure you get one that was assembled properly. Some of them were assembled with the ports 180 degrees opposite from where they should be.

You can read more about it by searching the Westerly Yahoo Group list.
