Some of you may remember some time ago I posted about a problem I had with my VP 2003 cooling system. To recap: The header tank kept topping itself up and overflowing. I stripped down the heat exchanger to find no fault. I suspected the pressure being greater in the calorifier leaking back through a small hole, theory but I had no evidence.

When I went through the cooling system over the winter I replaced the pressure cap on the expansion tank, it then would hiss as it was removed, something it had not done before. Over the weekend and with some motoring I was sat yesterday afternoon as SWMBO turned on the hot tap, the sunlight showed up the 2 second green flash as the water contaminated with antifreeze flowed! The calorifier is the source, I now just have to try and get a new heating coil in one I have, repair it or buy a new one. Important thing is, Ive solved the mystery!
