For a Volvo Penta 2003 (installed 1993) with the simpler instrument panel (rev counter dial only). I know the alarm sounder on the panel sounds for overheat or low oil pressure, but will it sound if the alternator is not charging?

During the weekend, the alarm sounder went off after the engine was stopped (not a usual feature when using this engine) and low oil pressure light showed, but dipping the engine oil level showed it to be fine - running the next day was also fine -should I be worried?

Thanks all!

I have Volvo Penta 2002 with simple panel. The alarm sounds when the alternator output is low and the battery light comes on (I get this on warm starts at tickover revs as my alternator does not energise until given a few more revs). The alarm always sounds for a few moments after stopping the engine.

Been meaning to post how to solve my alternator energising issue.

My alarm doesn't sound when I stop the engine (or before I start it for that matter). Should it?

It works because I overheated a while back and it went off. It also goes off when I press the test button.

Does this drawing of the alarm panel help? In this simplified drawing, it shows that the alternator does not sound the alarm.

Ihad a simple panel with a VP2003, The alarm definitely went off when the alternator volts was low. I always started the engine with some revs to energise the alternator.
