Trying to remove the propellor cone from a volvo penta 150S saildrive but it is not for budging. (Yes I have removed the centre lock bolt)

Can anyone definitively tell me if the cone is a left or right hand thread as a google search is giving me conflicting answers..

thanks in advance

We have the 120SD and it's a standard RH thread. Usually just holding the propellor and using a long rod through the hole works, turning the cone anticlockwise to unscrew it (same direction as the bolt you just took out).

It means to lock the cone back on with the bolt afterwards, you need to hold the cone still whilst doing up the bolt (that has been threadlock coated). A new bolt has a solid lump of threadlock already on the end.

One of my saildrive prop cones had had so much thread lock applied to it by a previous owner that there was no way it could be removed even with a breaker bar. I had to apply heat with a gas gun but the only way I could get the heat to the central boss was to angle grind away one side of the cone.

That was the last time either of my props ever saw thread lock.

Mine saildrives are actually Yanmars but the marina workshop only had Volvo cones in stock so I bought one of those. I think the Radice props are the same. Normal right-handed thread.
