The shaft seals are supposed to be replaced every 5 years - presumably due to loosening up on the shaft. The seal size is 50.8mm (2 inch) external diameter, 31.75mm (11/4 inch) internal diameter and 9.52mm thickness made of nitrate. Now standard industrial seals of 50.8 x 31.75 x 9.4 are readily available at £2 each has anybody actually installed and used them? If so have they found any problems and do they have manufacturer details? The PB sleeve article mentions that the writer decided not to use industrial seals - why I wonder after such pioneering work!

Hi ncahill99,
Here is a link to Abbey Seals near Dublin. If you send them details and preferably Maker info and number, they will specify for you. Also they will want to know what liquids are each side of the seals in use so as to provide the springs of the correct material to ensure long life.Hope this helps. They are very good and post promptly. no connection with this firm, just used them!
