I am considering fitting some second hand rope cutters to a Volvo Penta 290 outdrive on a Sealine S23 with a KAD32 engine.

Volvo do not seem to sell them anymore. Does anyone know whether they are worth fitting and why they are no longer sold.

Many thanks.

I assume the cost from volvo would make them almost a luxury, to the point where they wouldn't sell many.

Second hand might not be a bad option but check there not damaged.

They turn up on Ebay quite often so check there for second hand.

I'm not sure they are as effective on outdrives as on shafts, the ones i've seen are basicaly just a sharpened disc. I think they are ok for fishing line but larger ropes will still foul the prop. As outdrives are easily rasied for clearing I'm not sure I'd bother if they are unlikely to be that effective.

I am not sure that rope cutters as normally used are available
What Volvo have used in the past have always been referred to as line cutters and are a cutting disc spot welded to a distance spacer .
The cutters very often have detached and now volvo do not use them but the spacer is essential and must be fitted or the propellers drive into the anodes etc.
It is common that the spacer will stick to the Prop when removed and then fall of when moved about
