OK so being a Volvo it's going to cost but what are the options?

new pump
or can thwe old shaft and seals be fixed?

If so where and how much might it cost?

Any experience gratefully received

Hi, my pump was leaking through the " tell tale hole" and the marina suggested a new pump! After taking it off and stripping it down found the lip seals had gone. Bought new seals from local pump specialists for the princely sum of £2.50 each and re-assembled. The pump was actually a Johnson but original to the Volvo engine.
This was done with very limited mechanical knowledge but I thought if it didn't work then I would have to buy the replacement pump. You never know what you can do 'til you try, hope it goes well for you. Think you can get repair kits including the shaft from www.keyparts.co.uk

I replaced mine last week. Quite straightforward if a little fiddley. If I remember rightly the seal cost around £8 from the volvo dealer. What I thought was more of a rip off was the 87p they charged me for a screw for the impellor cover (all of 5mm long!).

Make sure the seals have stainless steel springs or they will corrode quite quickly. That will be why the Volvo ones are more expensive. Or maybe they are just ripping you off. The guys at Bukh in Poole gave me this info and they charge about £8.00 as well.

bobbobin , search for this thread to read previous posts on this job ,for my seal replacement method that does not involve removing the pump ! its simple .... good luck .

abbeyseals.ie near Dublin have these seals as well as millions of others! they post out after you phone up and ask you what liquids are retained by the seals. so they give you ss spring for the seawater side and another type for the oil side. You need to get a magnifying glass to read off the numbers from the old ones so try to do this before you mangle the old ones! Good sailing to all! Prices will be in Euros. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
