Sorry if this is a repost but during engine research I spotted this on VP website.

"Volvo Penta’s new standard warranty means that Volvo Penta engines and transmissions are fully protected for two years plus an additional three years for the engine’s and the transmission’s major components"

http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopent...m.aspx?News.ItemId=143559&News.Language=en-gb

I know there have been a few threads regarding their warranty cover, but this has to be a step in the right direction?

Just brings Europe into line with VP USA and the other major manufacturers.

Suspect VP may have faced potential legal challenge by EU had they continued..

The new warranty was not bought out due to any legal precident (i'm no lawyer, but I believe the only mandatory warranty for goods of this nature is 2 yrs in eu). VP UK used to have a longer warranty a few years back, but had to drop it under pressure from the 'mother ship'.
The new 5 yr warranty took a while to come along as VP did not want to have an extended warranty which required supplementary insurance. This new warranty, along with the optional 'bolt-on' warranty for years 3, 4 and 5 are all administered by VP Sweden, so this is a complete international 5yr warranty, regardless if it is the standard limited warranty or the full McCoy. Some other warranties are only valid in the country the product is registered in, so this is a good step from VP.

BTW, the extra 3yr bolt-on warranty needs to be purchased within 3 months of the registration date, if anyone is thinking about getting it. All dealers have pricing information.
