Hi all,
KAD300 on DP-G Drive.

Returning to home berth earlier, the stbd trim pump would not do anything (up or down)

The relays are clicking when you hit up/down. When you press the red button on the trim for beach mode the relay at the dash clicks.

When I connected to the port side (using a 2 core cable), the pump fires up, so the pump is good.

The LCD display for the trim angle works.

No diagnostic issues, engine runs fine.

I checked the following fuses, all OK:
2 fuses under the black box (Blade 7.5A)
Push fueses (2) in the black box
Single fuse next to the starter motor (Blade 5A)

This is clearly a power issue. I traced the black / red wires from the relays back to the engine. They go behind the engine and across to under the intercooler and after that i'm not sure where they go.

Wondering did I miss a fuse somewhere?

Everything else works!

Have you swapped the relays for a good set from the other side ?
Even though they "click " they somtimes go because the excess heat burns /oxidises the contacts to such an extend the Current can,t flow .
Not a specific Vp issue a general automotive relay issue too.

Sorry, forgot to mention...

YES, I swapped over the DOWN relay and again just a click, no pump.

A bit of Googling seems to suggest there's a breaker for the trim pump... is this true for the KAD300?

I think there is a50amp fuse block on top of the engine block near the black control box a thick black and thick red cable attached if I remember this fuse is for the leg trim pump

Regds ash

I didn't check this as I assumed it was for the starter. I will call out to the boat tomorrow and check it.

When mine did this, it was the relay holder that was corroded and breaking the circuit to the pump.

Just to confirm these are all in good order. Boat is in fresh water so don't suffer from the usual corrosion etc.

This is indeed usually the problem. The fuse does not look like a fuse - just looks like a white/clear nylon terminal block. It may also appear OK on test. Swap these over between the two engines and should prove the fault.

Yes, and can be intermittent as in when the engine gets hot so does the fuse and breaks down but when cold works ok. Took me a while to suss out why sometimes the pump worked and others not.

UPDATE: Returned to the boat today and it worked!

So, your theory is correct (I had suspected this)

I'm going to order 2 of these.

For the KAD300, are these Genuine parts only or is there aftermarket? I doubt Volvo make circuit breakers! Any advise on part no. / where to order?

Thanks all for the help.

Don't worry mate, a known fail point on the buggers.

Having been around KAD engines for over 10 years, it's news to me! I always assumed they were the starter breakers, didn't realise they were for the trim pump.

The day you learn something new is a good day!
