Volvo TAMD31\'s

Been to view a boat at the weekend, fitted with TAMD31's engines seemed fine, but on start up from cold she smoked quite badly a whitish smoke until warm, I've heard this before about 31's, can anyone throw some light on the subject before I throw my hard earned money away.

I'm not familiar with the 31's, but the 41's certainly have a reputation for doing this. I'd be tempted to submit a post or make a search on www.boatdiesel.com. I've used them in the past for my Volvo engine technical questions and they've been very helpful.
