Anyone know if there any major differences between these 2 engines apart from the D12 having more power. In other words is the D12 simply an upgrade of the 122P or a completely new engine? Is it worth paying more for a boat with D12 engines?

Can't comment on any of the technical stuff, but surely it has to be better to get the latest engines for long term spares availability and resale value, regardless of whether they are any better.

All things being equal, obviously its better to have the latest engines but I'm going to have to pay about £50k extra to get a new enough boat with the D12 engines and I'm wondering whether its worthwile

For what its worth Mike, I have D12's. First boat I've had with them and they are very very sweet engines! Huge amouns of torque and very quiet. Fuel consumption is also pretty reasonable all things considered.

If you look at all of the specs they have a much better power/weight ratio, fuel consumption etc than the equivallent MAN or CAT engines.

I know thay started out @ 615 HP(like the 122p so may be the same block) and apparently (according to jfm) they are bringing out a D12-800 this year!. should give MAN and CAT some competition.
