Volvo TAMD 74 Dipstick Tube leaking

Hi graham

We have the smaller siblings. The 61’s. If it’s anything like them, there is a flange at the bottom of the dip stick (with two securing bolts or screws from memory). I’m almost certain there is a gasket in here or at least an o ring. I’ll have a look next time down.

Hi Graham. Had a similar issue on my Cummins. A mechanic friend told me about using some Flexible Epoxy glue. Clean it up real well with a solvent, then drip/build up a ring around the tube entry point to the sump. May sound a bit of an amateur fix, but it solved my issue. Often these fixes can get bigger than BenHur, threads get crossed, rubber o rings push in and break off into sump. Argh.... I bought some West 2 part epoxy when in the USA and it’s solved a bunch of little repairs. Hope it helps. Cheers

I had exactly that problem with those engines in a previous boat. Unfortunately, memory doesn't serve perfectly but I think the tube is a separate part and there is a seal or gasket between it and the sump pan. Over time this may get worn and allow a small leak. Hopefully a learned Volvo engineer will be along soon to confirm.

As the title says, I have an oil leak from the dipstick tube on one of my Volvo TAMD 74 where the tube goes into the sump.

Has anybody else had this issue and able to shine a light on a fix for this

Thanks

Graham
Hi Graham, did you get a fix for this issue? We have exactly some issue on same engines. Thanks

I will check my docs later today - I think my previous owner had an issue on one of the Tamd 75's but was rectified by volvo
