I've got one of those "maintenance-free" Volvo type shaft seals. It needs a special grease (only about 1 cu cm) but I don't know what type of grease and don't have a name.
Any ideas what I need & where I can get it (pref in the Hamble area)

thanks
Frank

I think Duckhams Keenol is fine, but try RK Marine at Swannick, they are volvo agents as are Marine power at Hamble point.

I had been squeezing a worm of black "molyslip" type grease into my Volvo seal for a few years, but this year, when I didn't have the molyslip stuff with me, I went to the local engineering firm for some.

They said that I should not have been using the molyslip and gave me some of the proper grease to use - for free. It is a green/blue colour and costs an arm and a leg to buy a small tube of it.

I would therefore suggest getting the proper type grease for such an important shaft seal. If I find out the name of the grease, I will append it to this post - or post again to bring this thread back up..

If you buy the pukka Volvo Penta stuff, you need part number 828250 a 27g tube of the correct grease, current rrp £1.57+ Vat.
