My boat is coming out of the water shortly for a couple of months and I am looking for an authorised Volvo service agent to give my KAD43's an 100 hour service and also give the legs their annual service.
The boat is in Chichester marina so they need to be prepared to travel. I currently have Peters booked to do the work and although I believe they do an excellent job I feel they replace everything on the Volvo crib sheet regardless if it needs it or not.
I'm into the last year of the three year warranty so they need to be authorised.

Thanks
Kevin.

You need to keep up the warrenty so you have very little choice. There will be replacement of things that still look OK, like the leg gaiters, but this will give you peace of mind for the next couple of years.
In your Volvo book there will be a list of things that need servicing after 100hrs/2years so get a quote against these items rather than just say "give it a service"

It's crazy that they can get away with changing bits which obviously don't need changing. An example - The last service was the BIG EXPENSIVE 250 hour service earlier this year. As part of the service they changed all the belts, I wouldn't mind if they were old and showed signs of wear but at the time the boat was little over a year old!! They still look new.
My car is 6 years old, done 144000 miles and except for the CAM belt the rest are original. A car dealer wouldn't get away with changing belts after such a short period so why do the marine agents??? To add insult to injury the belts on the car are open to the elements day in, day out, the ones on the boat are kept nicely tucked away in their own relatively water tight room.

Kevin,

I know a Volvo mechanic who does private work based in Chichester area. Can give you his number if you want. He did my outdrive rams and was good and reasonably priced. PM me if you want his number.

I have KAD43's and I get them to leave the "old" parts, such as impellers etc as spares....

If it has happened I am pretty certain it was last year. I remember reading that it was going to happen in one of the magsbut I can't remember the exact date.

I took delivery of my boat in June 2002 and was told that it was one of the last ones with 3 years

Catapillars are still 3 years warranty. Shame Volvo cut back to 1 year.

SHAME - I think this may be the wrong word, I would use appalling. It only goes to show how much confidence they have in their engines and maybe what fools we are buying their product. It really is about time there was some competition in the boat engine market and then we could vote with our feet.
