As posted recently, I want to change to one of these seals but I need to know how flexible they are - for fitting purposes. When I disconnect the shaft, the skeg stops it moving back more than about 100 mm. For a 1" shaft the seals appear to be about 110 mm so I would need to bend it to fit it on the shaft. Is this feasible? The shaft is in good condition and smooth surfaces.

Thanks

They are all made of quite sturdy rubber and don't bend easily. Could you remove the shaft coupling to make more space?

I dont think you will have a problem The firs part of the seal you will fit on the shaft is sized for the stern tube.

So, that larger diameter extends for at least 25mm. Then you have the internal bearing which is a good fit on the shaft. When at this point the split plastic fitter needs installing to keep the seals in place. Then, keeping the fitter in place you push it home onto the stern tube.

Simples.
