The only difference between Volvo diesel oil filters for cars and those sold to "suckers"like us who own boats, is the thread size to screw the damn thing onto the housing. (MD22L) what is the correct thread size ? $2.99/// $8.95

A few years ago I watched a service engineer try very hard for quite a long time to convince the owner of a twin engined stink pot that the oil, fuel and air filters that Volvo sold in the chandlers were exactly the same as those supplied by an automotive supplier for the same basic engine used in a commercial vehicle. The difference in price was in excess of£200 put the "sucker" insisted on the "right" filters.

Also experienced just a few weeks ago someone paying £1000 including postage for spare parts for Volvo's gearbox which is just a reverse gear unit really when you can buy a brand new PRM for under half the price.

Some people enjoy spending more than they need to, only wish I could aford to join them.

Go to www.Fleetguard.com and you can punch in your Volvo part number and it will give you the fleetguard equivalent. Armed with the fleetguard number any supplier should be able to cross reference to any manufacturer. Sorted!

I just wish I could cross-reference the fuel lift pump as easily as the oil and fuel filters for my MD7A.....The service kit costs $ 90 (about £ 60) ! All the ancillaries are obviously made by somedody else
